I'm not sure what kind of chain saw the first guy was using but it looked like a toy. It was taking him forever to cut a simple hole. I'm going to have to blame the saw because I think the original vent man knew what he was doing (he secured the saw after making a grab for the fallen ff without fumbling at all). Faults: Should have been at least two guys on the roof initially (they appeared to have the manpower), nobody had sounding tools or a good tool to get through the ceiling once the hole was cut, the second ff should have been supporting the first guy instead of "helping", nobody checked out the ff who fell through the roof when he got down, seemed to be pretty disorganized on the ground (IC was too close to the hands on operations to get a good picture of the needs of the operation), and they need to get a real saw. Positives: Ground crews threw a second ladder (bad placement, but at least they threw one) and the saw guy was on the ball (acted extremely quick). Glad no one got hurt.

I'm with Skeletor, One guy on the roof and there were times no-one was watching him.
Second guy goes up and isn't sounding before he steps over the ridge and nearly went in.
I'm thinking the first guy up there was telling him to "get the %$#@ off the *&^@ roof before I ^%#&^ kick you off"
So many white hats, I was thinking "too many chiefs...." but I guess white is there regular lid.

The most distinct thing I notice of this scene; no organization of what's happening at all........

Seems like they were not making any progress on the fire for some reason. It couldnt have been hard to find.

Hey if you cant cut a hole with that kids saw, then send a white hat up to make the vent opening with his body. Ventilation complete.

I bet when they get back to the station they'll find the chain on backwards!
Is it just me or did anyone think the cut placement was wrong? I was looking at the smoke volume from the C-D side put the fire in that back bedroom(window I assume), thought maybe he should have cut over there. Either way, it sucks when you fall through anything (floor, roof) done both & it feels good to have your brothers looking out for you. Good job by guy w/ saw, think "What if" if he was the one who feel through when he was alone up there. I agree 2-man evolution.

Totally agree with SPRINGFIELD. The cut was too close to the A/B side, as the dark nasty smoke appeared to be to the C/D side. Had a proper vent hole been made and an interior attack properly done this close call may not have happened. Seems the line was inside with nobody working it. This is a small ranch dwelling...not a hard fire to contend with. Get in put it out.....vent in the proper place.....we all go home! Very freelance like in my opinion.

1st being up there alone. 2nd not working off a ladder. And here durning the video the guy with the chainsaw was the one I thought was gona bite the dust. But some Jaffo with a white helmet goes up the ladder not reading the smoke because you can tell the fire conditions changed. And wtf he is still cutting the hole OMG give up its 4 cuts!!!!!! Then he falls thru taking the 2nd guy away from his fisher price saw!!!! Get the hell of the roof break some glass and spray the water on the fire its a manufactered home they will rebuild as soon as you call back in quarters.

well....i bet he doesnt crawl up another roof without a ladder. they guys that put up the roof ladder were told in the early seconds to get one and they didnt put it were they were told, they look like rookies or something that are just allowed to help while on scene. at my volunteer dept we have some guys like this, they are very helpful if you train them right, they honestly looked lost the whole time.
but to vent i bet those guys will make sure to have everything they need next time they crawl up on a roof.
dumba@#* decisions, thats what kills people. be smart do things like you were taught, you were taught a certain way for a reason.

All around basics were ignored. Get rid of that tree trimming saw. Should have vented earlier near where the second guy started playing around. If there was an IC, he didn't have a strong grasp of this incident and no accountability.

first of all, at the 1 min mark, a guy comes out by himself. No other teamates exited with him. There is also no one healing the ladder at any point during this fire. The first chief on the roof is up there alone. There should be a second firefighter (or in their case a chief being there are so many) holding onto the tail of his coat. The second chief goes up and just decides to do what he wants and look what happened. Dumb mistakes but you learn from it
