Wow... is it hard climbing a ladder with balls of steel like that? I definitely don't wanna second guess the guys who were there but I dont know if I would send my crew onto a roof that was already burning through that much. I am surprised that there was still enough structural capacity to hold them. I am glad there was. My first thought was that the roof is already venting itself so why risk it, but they obviously vented quite a bit more gasses. Crap... is this conservative approach mean I am getting old? In any case, good work guys. Glad it all worked out. |

It didnt burn through the roof . The aluminum vents melted away . Perfect vent job . I think the helicopter reporter should stick to reporting traffic jams . |

I'll agree with the good vent job part, but looking to the sides of the burning "holes" there is no aluminum vent cap. But that is neither here nor there, the point is that they got the job done but we all should keep in the back of our minds the question of do I need to vent a structure that is already doin it for me. My first assessment would be not in the example shown, but they obviously were able to improve conditions with the cut. It worked out for the best for them. |

Good Job guys! What a text book 'relief' of hot gasses and fire! Then.. to see the tip get in there and chase it all out the vent hole! Perfect! Share a story regarding vent holes.... was on a sty and a 1/2 ranch,,, heavy fire breezeway into the home,,, made the hit... total black... heard the SAW working... Instant relief.... chased the fire out the vent hole and actually climbed out the vent hole when our tanks were spent! ..... Little trivia....
